Lakatamia is today one of the ten municipalities of Nicosia with a population of about 45,000. Until 1979 Lakatamia was a Horticultural Authority and from 1979-1986 it was the Improvement Council. It was declared in a municipality on 23 February 1986 following a referendum. Today, the Municipality is run by the Mayor and a 22-member Municipal Council elected for a five-year term.
The Municipality, in accordance with the Municipalities Law, decides and carries out: The implementation of the Town Planning and Planning Law within its limits; Construction, maintenance, cleaning, lighting, and free use of roads and bridges; Street names; The construction, maintenance and operation of drainage systems for stormwater and sewage and sewage treatment systems; The cleanliness and hygiene of the Municipality and the collection and management of waste; The good appearance of the Municipality and the protection and improvement of the natural environment; Public health and food hygiene.
ZEBRA has been assigned to develop an intuitive mobile app for Lakatamia Municipality, the MyLakatamia app, that would satisfy users with mobile and tablet devices running android and iOs. With this innovative application, the public can be informed about the latest announcements and all the events planned in the municipality, reporting problems, submitting opinions, suggestions and complaints, paying off its accounts easily and quickly and receiving various information for the Municipality.
The ultimate goal is to improve the service of the Municipality towards the public and, at the same time, to create another two-way communication channel, benefiting both the Municipality and the citizen. In this way, the Municipality ensures that it receives information from the public in real time for the immediate resolution of the matter.
The app is available for free to everyone and can be installed on mobile from Google Play (for Android devices) and from the AppStore (for iOS devices). The outcome was outstanding, and users’ feedback is already very positive. What public appreciates the most, is the fact that they can easily communicate their matter whenever and wherever they wish.
